Under regulations set forth by the  EPA's MA Small MS4 2016 General Permit and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, towns and cities are obligated to provide a stormwater management plan (SWMP) and an illicit discharge detection and elimination (IDDE) program. This page details those plans, programs, by-laws, regulations and other information necessary for the various town agencies, developers, residents and businesses to be able them to comply with the EPA and MA DEP regulations.

When it comes to clean water, all of us have a stake in making sure we do our part.  We all need to take an active role in carrying out the goals and objectives of the town's stormwater management plan and detect and eliminate illicit discharges.  Mitigating the impacts of our stormwater discharges to the storm drains, rivers, streams and the wetland will add value to the environment we call home.  Imagine the damage to our way of life, to the value of our town properties and to the environment if we don't stop the degradation of our stormwater discharges.

Cleaning up our rivers, streams and brooks can be accomplished in so many little ways with very little effort.  All the little ways add up to an accumulated positive impact on the town's important water resources.  This stormwater management plan and the illicit discharge detection and elimination program will get us to a point where we can at least maintain or improve out precious water.

The Conservation Commission is the regulatory authority in the Town of West Bridgewater for the illicit discharge detection and elimination program and the stormwater management plan.  However, the various West Bridgewater departments, boards, commissions and town staff will participate in complying with the Bylaw and Regulations.
